ZANEC further promoted radio instruction services nation- wide by teaming up with radio stations to allocate free airtime to promote remote learning. In line with this, 119 Radio Listener clubs were established in schools. ZANEC was also running a radio and bus campaign to encourage early school dropouts, mainly girls and learners with special education needs, to go back to school and complete their basic educational pathways. Teachers and parents were specifically targeted by the campaign with the aim to strengthen their digital skills and thus growing the skills of the educators who will shape Zambia’s future. Promoting digital learning for equitable and good-quality basic education In 2020, Zambia’s first cases of COVID-19 emerged, resulting in school closures in the country. The civil society organisation Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC) actively participates in national processes and debates on education with the aim of promoting inclusive and quality basic education. For this project, ZANEC carried out a study which provided insights into key factors limiting distance learning, especially for children from households with poor digital literacy.
